New Jersey’s First Chief Innovation Officer to Present Opportunities for Digital Transformation
NEWARK, Nov. 29, 2018 – EdgeCon 2019, New Jersey’s premier digital transformation and leadership event, will present award-winning futurist, innovation strategist, and broadcaster, Shivvy Jervis, as the keynote speaker. Jervis will be joined by Dr. Beth Simone Noveck, Major General (ret.) Patricia A. Frost, Dr. Barbara Lockee, and Sallie Wright, who will lead plenary sessions at the conference.
In conjunction with the conference theme of “Digital Transformation: From Strategy to Practice,” the speakers will share their real-world experiences in innovation, strategic planning and IT that are shaping digital technologies underpinning education, healthcare, and government.
Jervis, who has keynoted over 300 events including summits for EY, Ericsson and Gartner, will deliver insights into navigating the dizzying influx of new digital advances and forecast the road ahead.
“I am delighted to join EdgeCon 2019 as their keynote speaker, as this conference exemplifies an ethos I champion – to make digital innovation accessible across sectors,” Jervis said. “I’ll be demonstrating how to make new tech advances work for everyone – including the education and government arenas – and how to fully embrace and explore what lies ahead.”
Dr. Beth Simone Noveck was appointed as the State of New Jersey’s first Chief Innovation Officer by Governor Philip D. Murphy in August 2018, and was named one of the World’s 100 Most Influential People in Digital Government 2018 by Apolitical. At EdgeCon, she will leverage her expertise in digital transformation and innovation to highlight the opportunities and challenges in the public sector. Some of the key components behind her policies include innovative strategies through data, collective intelligence, and agile technology.
Major General Patricia A. Frost, U.S. Army, Retired, is the former Director of Cyber, Electronic Warfare and Information Operations for the Department of the Army. There she led the Army’s development of strategy, policy and the budget ($2.5B) for these critical disciplines. During her time as the Deputy Commanding General of U.S. Army Cyber Command, she was responsible for training, building and equipping the Army’s offensive and defensive cyber force. MG Frost will share her perspective on cybersecurity in the public sector, along with strategies for hardening our cyber defenses and the concept of the “human firewall.”
Dr. Barbara Lockee, Professor at Virginia Tech and Vice President of the International Academic Forum, will delve into modern classroom practices through her session “Promoting Learner Centric Education through Digital Transformation.” She will explore the opportunities presented by digital transformation to build learner centric educational models, where evolving technologies aren’t adopted for the sake of using the “latest and greatest” tech, but in support of an engaging, stimulating student experience.
Sallie Wright, CIO and IT leader, will demonstrate how technology is enabling the public sector to achieve greater levels of efficiency while improving the services they deliver through her session, “Unmasking Digital Transformation: Practical Strategies and Lessons Learned in the Public Sector.” Wright carries 30 years of experience in information technology leadership. She will share insights into IT strategic planning, enterprise infrastructure, and IT security and privacy in government and education practices.
“We’re thrilled to add this phenomenal group of speakers to EdgeCon’s agenda. Their expertise aligns with our mission of providing a robust framework to advance digital transformation in any organization,” said Dr. Samuel Conn, President & CEO at Edge. “Involvement from experienced, hands-on educators as well as digital leaders is integral to achieving the vision we have for accelerating technology adoption in education, healthcare, and government.”
