George Laskaris

The George Laskaris Award for Leadership is established to honor George Laskaris, the inaugural

president and CEO of NJEDge.Net. It is awarded to an individual in recognition of his/her contribution to

the NJEDge community.

In 1997, the Commission on Higher Education convened a Technology Task Force which led to the

formation of NJIN, the precursor of NJEDge.Net. At the start, George was at the helm setting up

strategic goals for the consortium. In his tenure, he built NJEDge to be one of the premier state

networks in the nation.

Prior to NJEDge.Net, George was Executive Director of Computing Services and Associate Provost

for Information Technology at Rutgers University where he was responsible for a university-wide

initiative to adopt IT into its academic and administrative services. George’s own leadership qualities

was evident when he accepted the position of chair of StatesNet.

The 2016 recipient of the Laskaris Leadership Award is Blake Haggerty, Executive Director for

Digital Learning and Technology Support, New Jersey Institute of Technology.
