The 21st century learning environment as one where there is a complete blurring and integration of higher education to knowledge touch points such as the classroom experience, distance learning, reference information, and students and faculty communication. This environment is enabled today because of modern technologies such as Web 2.0, multimedia, mobile devices and virtual presence connected by the internet. Students or faculty can immerse themselves into this environment with unrestricted access to people, resources, and information. If fully utilized the learning environment proposes that the lines of an on and off campus experience no longer exists or forms barriers for learning or research.
