IT systems are vulnerable to a variety of disruptions. These disruptions range from mild to severe and the impacts from negligible to significant. Technical, management, and operational solutions may mitigate many of the known risks but it is simply impossible to completely eliminate all risks. As a consequence, effective contingency planning, execution, testing, and maintenance are essential to mitigate the risks of systems and service interruptions.

IT Disaster Recovery (DR) planning fits within an overall continuity of operations and business continuity planning strategy. During the session we will explore the concepts associated with Threat and Vulnerability Assessments, Business Impact Analysis, Business Continuity Planning, Affordability Modeling, and the IT DR planning processes, and development of policies and processes towards development, training, maintenance, and the exercising of contingency plans.
