CIO / Executive Team Dinner
Wednesday, October 31, 2007, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm (by invitation only)
The program will feature Gene Spencer, Director of the Educause Management Institute and former Associate Vice President for Information Technology at Bucknell University who will speak on "Filling the Leadership Pipeline".
What leadership challenges will our IT organizations face in the future? Conditions change. Opportunities emerge. People make decisions about what is right for their lives on their own terms. Most of our institutions rely too heavily on search processes and the employment market to bring us the right IT leadership skills when we need them, but that is a risky and time-intensive approach. How can we capture the emerging talents, interests and technical acumen that exist within our organizations to develop leaders for the future? Together, we will explore the role of succession management, leadership development and mentoring to ensure that our IT leadership pipeline is full.
This dinner program is an excellent opportunity for Information technology leaders and one or two of their senior staff to engage in discussion with a national expert and colleagues on the important issue of succession planning and staff professional development.
This event is by invitation only and open to each CIO and up to 2 members of the CIO's executive team per institution. There is no charge for this evening of dining and open discussion.
Earlier on Wednesday will be preconference workshops. Our formal conference begins the following morning and will include our fourth annual conference CIO Leadership Summit for those CIO's attending the conference. Any guest wishing to stay over and attend the main conference can register through our web site for the two-day conference. http://www.njedge.net/conference2007/
The dinner is scheduled for 6:00 - 9:00 pm at the Wyndham Conference Center at 900 Scudders Mill Road in Plainsboro, NJ.

CIO Leadership Forum
Thursday, November 1, 2007 11:30 am - 2:00 pm (by invitation only)
This forum will provide an opportunity for CIOs to network with your peers and rub elbows with Jane Oates and Gene Spencer
The discussion will cover three topics:
- A discussion with Jane Oates, Executive Director, New Jersey Commission of Higher Education, on the topic: What are the most critical issues facing higher education in New Jersey where higher education technology can or must be a major component? Current issues include the call for increased accountability (local, state and fed), state code of ethics, access and affordability, state budget constraints, campus safety and security, data privacy, identity theft and FERPA, and emergency preparedness. How can the state's higher education institutions leverage/support technology in higher education initiatives given a statewide view? What role can the state's higher education CIO's play in supporting these important initiatives and goals?
- A follow up discussion on the Leadership Pipeline with Gene Spencer
- An update on important NJEDge initiatives including the Emergency Notification RFP, state voice contract, CIO subgroup work on shared Disaster recovery Planning, and others.
The CIO Executive Team Dinner and Leadership Forum are by invitation only.
The forum is open to CIOs of NJ's colleges and universities attending the conference. Separate registration for the conference is required to stay at the hotel and attend the conference: http://www.njedge.net/conference2007/regform.html
