Congratulations to Robert Torres, Berkeley College, and Mary Balkun, Seton Hall University. They have both won the first prize award for their poster presentations.

Robert Torres’ poster was Customizing the user experience, One tab at a time.  He fashioned an iPad in the middle of the poster to show video which proved to be an effective interactive tool.  His topic was on User experience as a key goal for Berkeley College in 2014. During a three-month process of research, testing, and feedback with Faculty, Staff and Students were happy to present their new Blackboard redesign which incorporate a personalized login page, Social media links, Custom Student Advisor/Counselor modules (with photos), scrolling banners, one click grade feature, new community portal with feeds (Instagram and twitter) and so much more.

Mary Balkun’s poster was Serious Play with Pinterest which revisits and provides an update on an earlier presentation about using Pinterest, the social media tool, in upper-level literature classes to enhance the learning experience. Over the course of four years, Dr. Balkun has experimented with various iterations of the project, varying the parameters of the Pinterest assignment to appeal to different learning styles and to meet different instructional goals.
